V Anniversary Scientific Conference «Early Childhood Care and Education»

On May 12-14, 2016, the Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted the V Anniversary Scientific Conference «Early Childhood Care and Education» - the major event dedicated to preschool psychology and pedagogy in the Eurasian region.

This Conference is held annually and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, Russian Academy of Education, Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, Russian Psychological Society, World Bank, Federal Institute for Development of Education. The Conference was included in the Major Events Plan of the Eurasian Association of Universities and was timed to the Year of Education in the Commonwealth of Independent States. This year, the People’s Republic of China was the Guest of Honor (Partner Country) of the Conference.

The 2016 Conference was welcomed on behalf of the Chairman of the State Duma S.E. Naryshkin; Minister of Education and Science of Russia D.V. Livanov; Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China; Civic Chamber of Russia; Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States; Russian-Chinese Committee for Peace, Friendship and Development; Russian-Chinese Friendship Society.

Eventful three-day program of the Conference included lots of activities, in particular:

  • Specialized international exhibition «Preschool Education Today»
  • Contest for young scholars
  • Nationwide contest of children’s drawings
  • Exhibition of the works by the winners of the contest for the best architectural designs for preschool institutions in the High North and Far East regions
  • Awarding of the winners of the international contest «Project Activities in Preschool Institutions - 2015»

Altogether, more than 1900 specialists from 61 regions of Russia and 27 foreign countries (China, Albania, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Sweden, Tajikistan, Ukraine, United States, Uzbekistan) took part in the Conference activities.   

The plenary sessions’ presentations were delivered by Alexander Grigorievich Asmolov -  Member of the Russian Academy of Education, Doctor of Psychology, Professor, Director of the Federal Institute for Development of Education (Russia);  Joachim Quintino Aires – Doctor of Psychology, Professor, Director of Vygotsky Institute (Portugal); Debby Cryer – PhD, Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA); Tatyana Vladimirovna Volosovets – Professor, Director of the Institute for Childhood, Family and Education Studies at the Russian Academy of Education (Russia); Mary Young – Director of the Center for Childhood Development at the Chinese Scientific Research Foundation (USA); Elly Singer – PhD, Professor at the Universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam, Member of the EECERA Board of Trustees (Netherlands).

Particular attention was paid to such issues as the assessment of education quality, math skills and speech development, development of children’s discretion, patriotic education, education policy, methods of training of education specialists.

Roger Säljö – Professor of the University of Gothenburg, Director of the Center for Research on Learning, Interaction and Mediated Communication in Contemporary Society (Sweden) – and Vladimir Samuilovich Sobkin –  Director of the Center for Sociology of Education at the Institute of Education Management of the Russian Academy of Education, Member of the Russian Academy of Education, Professor at the Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia) – delivered the lectures dedicated to L.S. Vygotsky’s 120th birth anniversary.
